One of the Otino Waa kids I sponsor is named Jasper. (What a cool name.) I received his picture and bio in April of 2021 and began to write him monthly. Months soon turned into a year without a response. My letters continued, along with prayers and support and the hope that one day he’d respond. From time to time, I’d assure him that there was no pressure to write back, as I knew he was busy with schoolwork. Being an adult and him a child, I never wanted him to feel anything except unconditional friendship and support. It was my role to give all I could to young Jasper.
As that first year rolled on towards two, out of the blue came a letter from Jasper! After 14 months of silence Jasper spoke – what a joy! The one whom I have long prayed for, wrote to, and supported, entered my life in a tangible way. As I read his letter, I finally gained a sense of his person. He was a believer in Christ, loves English class in school and one of his favorite verses is Isaiah 54:17.
“People will make weapons to fight against you,
but their weapons will not defeat you.
Some people will say things against you,
but anyone who speaks against you will be proved wrong.”
The Lord says, “That is what my servants get!
They get the good things that come from me, their Lord.
He went on to thank me for all my letters and assured me he’d been receiving them. Thanks to Visions of Hope, we’d connected at last.
In a way, it’s like this with mankind’s relationship to God. From the womb we do not know him, but He knows us and reaches out to us in various ways. He gives of himself and speaks. He waits….. and when, at last we respond to him, what joy it brings!

Timothy has been a sponsor of the Otino Waa kids for years. He enjoys the promise we make to find complementary donors who match his monthly $5. It seems Jasper has been an important part of Timothy’s life. Could you be an important part of Timothy’s? He will likely never know you, but we (and God) will.
