Still Deciding

Still Deciding

By AIC Artist Yohannes Tesfay

After struggling for some time, this piece became a double image, which I struggled to complete. I just couldn’t find a stopping point. The outcome of it reminded me of the Rorschach Inkblot test we take coming into prison. It is supposed to help determine personality and emotional functions.

I set the image out in the day room of my housing unit and got dozens of different answers as to what people saw. Now the question would be, what do you see in it?

From my childhood, I’ve always been fascinated by hidden images that I can make out in random things. As an artist, it comes in handy when I find myself stuck as to what I want to draw next. I can get random ideas because of my overactive imagination. I have found in life, and in prison, when you are deprived of so much, a creative mind takes the lead and options appear quite easily.

All AIC artists depend on us to keep a steady provision of art supplies. That means we depend on YOU to keep that promise. Your funds become art, which, when sold, becomes a support for our Otino Waa students. Currently, our commitment to all art groups is over $4000 per year. Would you consider helping with this?
