10 THINGS YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT INMATE ARTISTS AND VISIONS OF HOPE

ART IS....

A true artist is almost always inspired, but takes it one step further to inspire others

  1. Passion makes a connection. When an AIC (Adult in Custody) determines the lives at Otino Waa Children’s Village, Uganda – (OTW) have value, the desire is to support their future. Each prison art group is based on this goal.
  2. Visions of Hope (VOH) provides an annual budget of $750 to each art group for supplies. The members determine their needs, and we send quality supplies.
  3. Each artist trusts VOH with their donated art. Ownership is given to us via permission forms to use the art to support OTW.
  4. Woodburning, air brush, paper and yarn are included in the art received from AIC.
  5. The various prison locations require VOH to provide a carded volunteer to oversee the group’s activity.
  6. Each art piece is inventoried and digitized. So far, over 3250 have come from prison artists.
  7. Each artist is provided a 4×6 photo of their creation for their own portfolios.
  8. Art always provides insight into the personalities of the AIC artists.
  9. AIC art has found its way into OTW on multiple occasions with gifting to the children, house moms and staff.
  10. The concept of prison art to support OTW originated with an AIC in 2009.
