A Glimpse of the Son

Discovery of Son

Introduction by Dale Russell

We sometimes have the privilege of receiving notes from the AIC we have associated with. Recently, we sent an appeal to a select few asking that they write personal stories that would be blog-worthy.  The response has been encouraging and today an example of poetry serves as the message.

As you read this, it is easy to see the progression – a drastic fall, the price being prison. Then a discovery of a son and the rediscovery of the SON. Included is the promise of a future with purpose.

Place yourself in the shoes of the writer as the highs and lows are examined as well as the joy in the finish.

A Glimpse of the Son

There were dreams I held so tightly; swore I would never let them go

Ones I thought I would keep forever, the hardest ones you know

Held by just one heart’s conviction, till the truth came into view

Like a hurricane of evil come with winds survived by few

Like a wave of pure deception, reality came crashing through

Hope and promise swept away, love and trust were torn in two

Broken dreams and scenes of sadness feeding pools with endless tears

Weakened spirit drenched in sorrow, bound by darkness, blind with fear

Praying for a happy ending, sadness waiting for its cue

That’s the day I surrendered, that’s the day I learned of you

Kneeling I ask for one reason for this pain that is always near

I cried out, please give me purpose, what is mine for being here?

At once I felt the presence of the angel sent by You

“You will keep the 10 commandments and to evil show No Fear”

Prove your faith and show commitment”, He spoke softly in my ear

Then He let me glimpse the future, many friends and family near

It appeared I was a father of a son of just a year

He said this child holds the promise and I will take away your fear,

for your love gives him contentment, reaching out to wipe my tear

He said true love is forever this should make your purpose clear

Show him your truth and wisdom and the faith you hold so dear

This is love that has no end and promise of a heart that is pure

Visions of Hope continues to communicate with our AIC partners via mini newsletters. We invite you to be a part of this process and write a short inspirational piece to be included in our next mailing. You do not have to be a prolific writer or be concerned with grammar or punctuation. We will help with that. Just say what you would like to hear if you were trading places with a prisoner.
