“I can’t believe you would help those kind of people”

freedom from mistakes

It’s really hard to get people to think differently about those who are in prison, broadly seen in some of the most negative terms.  Many are generally uninterested in what happens to people in prison.

Some say, “I can’t believe you would help those kind of people”. A good reply would be, “those people are someone like me

What if your poor choices were public knowledge?

Think for a moment. What was the worst day of your life? What was the worst decision you ever made? What if the two came together and consequences were quick to follow? What if your poor choices were public knowledge? Now, make this very personal as you now are identified as a number, a uniform and permanent stigma that will follow you the rest of your life. You have completely transformed your life, wanting freedom from the mistakes. It seems you will always be known for those worst days.

There are those behind bars who will always be a threat, but what about those who are truly changed and just want the chance to prove it to you?

Transforming their jail cells into art studios

From the outside, SRCI in eastern Oregon looks like any other dreary correctional facility in America. Most importantly, Adults in Custody (AIC) are connecting their lives with those in need. With the help of Visions of Hope, AIC David has taken this to a whole new level.

David is trying to do great and good things in dark world behind razor wire. It is a sincere attempt to confront darkness and prove there is much more to know about him.

Many people underestimate the power of art and the determination of the message. Every person can evolve into a new embodiment of themselves and explore art in their healing and rehabilitation.

Supplies found in prison trash

Consider this. What if you could create art out of the scant supplies found in prison trash? That would be paper, plastic, string, foil and pen or pencil. The genuine creativity is amazing. Glue? Well, let’s say there are secret recipes that work great.

Now add the purpose. All original art given to Visions of Hope is available for purchase and 100% of the sales go directly to Otino Waa Children’s Village, Uganda. You should see David’s excitement. Each new piece has a purpose dear to his heart.

AIC continue to see the definition of their lives as artists who support orphans! We need to pay attention to them!

Longevity of retribution is not productive to anyone

We should have a great deal of respect for anyone who can endure prison. Prison is prison, regardless if it is in an 8×10 ft cell or in the back of your mind. Even though someone is incarcerated, he or she is still a human, not just identified by their mistakes. Remember that poor choice you made? How long would you like to be remembered for it? Longevity of retribution is not productive to anyone and surely not to society as a whole when 90% of the prison population will be released back into society. They will be our neighbors, walk the streets with our children and become our co-workers.

What did David JUST communicate to you about who he is?

  1. Very nice David. I did 18 plus years and was part of the beginning art with Dale. He knows me and my paintings well. It was such a blessing to see the changes my contribution made to Otino waa. Keep it up, God bless
