The VOH Team of seven returned from Otino Waa Children’s Village, Uganda after 22 days of wonderful interactions with the children, churches and various communities. The hard part is retelling so many stories in a short fashion. The easy part is reliving those stories in our minds with laughter and tears. Here goes a very short version for you to consider.
What were the OTW kids’ responses to the video messages from their AIC sponsors?
If you remember, VOH set up appointments with most of the AIC who sponsor the OTW kids. We were able to get into five facilities and captured hours of footage. This was edited and brought to the OTW children for them to experience a voice, a face and special messages. This was so fun! Many times, the responses made us cry out of sheer joy. The amazing thing about this was the instant recognition of the purpose and relationship. Even those younger kids with minimal grasp on English knew this was important.
Here’s a sampling of those messages.
How to maximize your God given talents to engage everyone at OTW.
There is something special about a team that knows exactly how to develop a plan, amplify their abilities, and impress their team leaders. (Sandy and I). Watching everyone match their projects to the recipients was amazing. Here are some highlights of each team member as we passed on long lasting skills to everyone at Otino Waa and four different churches.
A unique way to spread God’s word to the poorest.
Before we left the US, we made an important connection with individuals who donated over 90 audio bibles to distribute to various churches in Uganda. These went to church cell group leaders in two established congregations and two new Salvation Sheds (church plant) in very rural areas. These audio bibles are unique in that they are in the local language, solar powered, and perfect for small group settings where many do not know how to read. The lantern version even has lights, AM/FM radio and an impressive speaker that can be heard 20-30′ away. Here’s our thank you message to Kent, Susan, Don, Lana, Keizer & Dawn of Bend, OR who provided the Bibles.
What’s next?
We now have a monumental task of editing massive amounts of media to be ready to re-enter the prisons. This will be the basis for reporting back to the AIC who sponsor and create art, as well as the next large group presentations. Please be sure to watch for the new prison dates so you can join us!
